Welcome to The Art of Riding with Karen Musson
My Approach to Coaching

My strategy as your coach is to listen to and understand your goals with your horse, then assist you in augmenting existing skills and developing new skills to support your progress now and in the future, through 'Feel'. My coaching style is patient, respectful and supportive. I am passionate about what I do with horses, and I choose to coach because it is a joy and most rewarding.

The important things to me in a student --  whether beginner or advanced -- are an open mind and a desire to develop a better connection with your horse.

When we develop our powers of concentration, observation and feel it becomes obvious that the horses are crystal clear that this 'feel' based approach through 'release' frees them to perform for you with heart.

Enjoy your journey!

Meet Karen Musson

I was born in England, soon moved to Scotland, where I began riding at the age of five at a local riding school. Later, my family moved to France, and I continued to develop riding skills at a number of French equestrian centers. I evented a 12.1hh Welsh pony called Roana and rode in the French championships at Fontainebleau. When I was thirteen, my family returned to England, near Guildford, Surrey. I had the good fortune to work with several top instructors in Dressage, jumping and cross country. I rode competitively in eventing on a dynamite Irish mare, Storm Bay.

I moved to Granville, Ohio, USA, in 1994. I became a student of natural horsemanship and then horsemanship through feel. Most recently, I have been working closely with Leslie Desmond, co-author of "True Horsemanship Through Feel" with Bill Dorrance.

For a detailed account of my journey, please see my Trainer's Profile at www.lesliedesmond.com or you can view it on this site.

My goal is to connect with the horse's mind in a way that he enjoys and understands, so that he can perform in lightness, through feel.  You can also read more about my coaching.

I combine my passion, 35 years experience with horses, fascination with psychology and a sincere desire to inspire and assist my students on their own journey with horses. I coach students privately, in workshops or clinics. See Coaching and Clinics for more information.

Enjoy this site and enjoy your journey with horses!

Right: Karen's masterful teacher, "Chase", a wonderful 8 yr old Holsteiner, grandson of "Cor de la Bryère". What a mind, and what an athlete!
